Today’s gospel from John (6:56-69) for the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost has Jesus teaching in Capernaum. Many disciples complained his teachings were difficult, and Jesus knew the ones who didn’t believe, including the one who would betray him. Jesus said: “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father.” Many disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. Jesus asked the twelve, “Do you also wish to go away?” Simon Peter answered, “Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”
In his sermon, Fr. Tom Schneider preached that we carry Jesus with us and are all sent into the world to witness and serve on behalf of him with whom we are, now and always, united.
